At DANSKER, our R&D philosophy extends beyond simple video recording. We view the dash cam as a vital component of the vehicle’s ecosystem. With the release of the S701, we have moved past “black box” utility into the realm of human-centric engineering, focusing on how hardware and interface design can enhance the driver’s daily journey.

I. The Engineering and Psychology of the “Smile” UI
In traditional dash cam design, the startup sequence is often an afterthought—usually a static logo or a cold progress bar. For the S701, we engineered a signature “Smile” Power-on/off UI based on several key technical and psychological considerations:
- Emotional HMI (Human-Machine Interaction): Driving, especially in congested urban environments, is often a high-stress activity. By implementing an anthropomorphic “Smile,” we transform a cold monitoring device into a “driving companion.” This builds immediate brand affinity and reduces the psychological friction often associated with safety surveillance.
- Clear System Feedback: From an embedded systems perspective, the startup animation serves as a visualization of the Power-On Self-Test (POST). The “Smile” provides an instant, high-contrast status update. Drivers can confirm the device is fully operational or has safely saved data during shutdown without needing to read small text, significantly reducing cognitive load.
- Market Differentiation: In the highly competitive European and American markets, visual identity is paramount. This unique UI signature provides a memorable touchpoint that distinguishes DANSKER from generic competitors, making the S701 highly “shareable” and recognizable.
II. The Strategic Advantage of the 1.35-inch Circular IPS Display (300cd/m²)
While circular displays present higher manufacturing complexity and require custom UI scaling, the engineering benefits for the automotive cabin are substantial:
- Aesthetic Integration: Modern premium vehicle interiors favor fluid, organic shapes, often featuring circular instrument clusters and air vents. The 1.35-inch circular form factor allows the S701 to blend seamlessly with the cockpit’s DNA, appearing as a sophisticated digital gauge rather than a disruptive aftermarket add-on.
- IPS Wide-Angle Technology: Dash cams are typically mounted near the rearview mirror, meaning the driver views the screen from an off-center, acute angle. Our IPS (In-Plane Switching) panel ensures a 178° ultra-wide viewing angle, maintaining color accuracy and contrast integrity. This is critical for drivers to quickly verify recording status at a glance.
- Optimized 300cd/m² Luminance: We calibrated the display to a “sweet spot” of 300cd/m² to solve two specific environmental challenges:
- Daylight Legibility: It provides sufficient brightness to overcome the intense glare and reflections common at the windshield.
- Night Safety: Unlike overly bright screens that can impair a driver’s scotopic vision (night vision), this luminance level—combined with our auto-sleep logic—ensures the display is informative without becoming a source of cabin distraction or eye fatigue.
